![]() ![]() The faintness varies depending on who I am calling. Thanks Dave good to be able to rule out an internal wiring contribution, so gave the test socket a go but it is just as faint. Could I benefit from a stronger signal from the exchange, and how do I get one? Is there a handset suitable for such a weak signal? Distance is obviously an issue, the engineer said old cables could contribute too but while "within parameters" nothing would be done. My thoughts are that the analogue phone signal is being attenuated along the way. Tried an amplifying phone (for hard of hearing) and that magnifies crackle as well as voice so you still can't hear properly. The line sounds clear enough, no rattles or hums, but the voices are very quiet. We now have fibre from the exchange to the cabinet delivering 8MB internet (as good as it can get with so much copper to the house) but that did not improve the phone. I am in a rural loaction in Cornwall, over a mile from the cabinet. Had Openreach engineer out and the line is "within parameters if a little on the low side", but I am fed up of having to jamb the receiver against my ear, asking people to repeat themselves, and having to shout. ![]() No I don't have hearing problems, but no matter what handset I use in my new house the voices are too quiet and callers complain that they can't hear me either. ![]()
